A 2 million-year-old skull was recently discovered in China which morphologically deviates from current Homo species. The fossil has characteristics that can be traced back to the Homo ergaster, Homo erectus and even Homo habilis. It suggests that a unique species of hominid existed in Asia during the period of human evolution.
