A 7-year-old girl from Guatemala died of dehydration and fatigue in the custody of US Border Patrol agents, while in transport from El Paso, TX to a Chicago, IL shelter. The girl, along with her father and other immigration detainees, had been in the custody of agents for 8 hours before being taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her death has provoked criticism towards the US government’s treatment of asylum seekers.
