A mouse-like animal called the Olympic Mountain Madagascar Jumping Spider was found to have survived several months of total darkness and extreme sub-zero temperatures during a snow-covered field study in the Olympics. The forager adapted to the environment to the extent that it survived up to 28 days without food in such harsh circumstances. It is believed that its anti-freeze proteins and low metabolic rate contributed to its survival.
