A state of emergency has been declared in France due to a surge in coronavirus cases. In the face of an imminent health crisis, President Macron has set out strict new measures including a curfew in Paris and some other cities and a ban on gatherings of more than six people. These measures have been put in place to try to protect people from the virus and prevent the already strained healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
