An asteroid named 2024 PT5, about 33 feet long, is expected to become a temporary “mini-moon” for Earth, entering its orbit on Sunday and staying until November 25. It will not complete a full orbit around Earth before continuing its path around the sun. Such mini-moon events are not uncommon; previous examples include 2020 CD3 and 2006 RH120. Mini-moons can be short-term, lasting weeks to months, or long-term, lasting over a year and completing multiple orbits.
