Apple plans to update the iPhones software allowing the Sleep/Wake button to be used for ‘Emergency SOS’. This will allow users to quickly press the button five times in a row to be connected with emergency services based on their current location. After the update, the Sleep/Wake button will no longer be used to power off the phone, but instead users will need to hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons to power down.
