Asassn-14li is a mysterious, extremely bright, massive star located 7.8 billion light-years from Earth. It was discovered that this star was being pulled apart and slowly consumed by a giant supermassive black hole located at the center of its home galaxy. This is caused by the extremely strong gravitational pull of the black hole exerting a stronger force on the star than its own gravity.
