Astronauts Thomas Pesquet and Matthias Maurer are practicing lunar missions at the European Space Agency’s new LUNA facility in Germany. The facility replicates lunar conditions with 900 tons of volcanic rock and low-gravity simulations. ESA aims to prepare for future moon missions under NASA’s Artemis program by 2030. The facility offers realistic training with spacesuits and lunar-like environments. ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher called it a significant milestone in Europe’s space exploration efforts. Currently, ESA relies on NASA for space missions and is building the service module for the Artemis Orion crew capsule.
