Post navigation A 500-million-year-old fossil, discovered in British Columbia, is believed to be a species of primitive worm. It has been identified by its characteristic spiky claws resembling that of the gigantic sandworms from Frank Herbert’s science fiction novel ‘Dune’. As such, its been appropriately named Conglobus arrakis in recognition of the novel’s influence. Asteroids are small, rocky bodies that usually orbit the Sun. Most asteroids have short life spans in the Solar System, and are created and destroyed within a period of millions of years. However, a few asteroids are stable enough to survive for billions of years, with some even potentially holding clues to the origin of our Solar System.
