California’s Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a new law raising taxes on guns and ammunition. The taxes will help fund school safety programs throughout the state. This legislation increases the state’s firearms safety fee to $24 per gun and taxes ammunition 9-10 cents per round for small arms and 28 cents per round for larger weapons. The revenue from the taxes will fund new grants for school safety programs in an effort to protect kids while they attend classes.
