Countries around the world are racing to explore the heavily cratered south pole of the moon by 2023. This region of the moon is particularly important for scientists because the sun never reaches it, resulting in a permanently shaded area which could potentially contain frozen water. NASA’s Artemis mission, along with plans from countries in Europe and Asia, are focusing on this area and could provide us with new insights about our solar system.
