In 2023, researchers near Chile documented a female orca killing and sharing a dusky dolphin with other orcas, marking the first recorded instance of such behavior in the Humboldt Current system. This observation provides new insights into the hunting habits of these orcas, which are not yet classified into an ecotype. The findings, published in Frontiers in Marine Science, contribute to the limited knowledge about the Humboldt Current orcas, which are less studied compared to other groups.
