MIT researchers used neural navigators from an animal called a pond snail to crack the code that relates brain and behavior. They identified the motor neurons connected to muscles that control retracting the snail’s foot in relation to its environment. Through this, the team was able to identify the rules and neural activities involved in animal navigation.
