Post navigation NASA is developing a ‘wolf pack’ of small rovers to explore the lunar surface in 2024. The autonomous rovers will carry out simultaneous surface exploration and sample collection from multiple locations. The rovers will be able to navigate up to distances of 30 km or more from their landing locations. A 46,000 year old nematode was recently reanimated from ancient Siberian permafrost as part of a larger effort to study how animals survive for so long in cryogenic states. Scientists were able to revive this species, which had not been seen in over 40 million years, after temporarily storing them in enriched soil. This breakthrough in cryostasis may help to further our understanding of the limits of the survival of organisms in extreme temperatures.
