Russia’s so-called “private military companies,” which have been widely associated with mercenary organizations, have recently been spotted on the front lines of a six-year-long conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The new group appears to be a continuation of the infamous Wagner Group, which has ties to the Russian intelligence agency. This presence raises concerns about Moscow’s geopolitical ambitions in the region, as well as the potential for the conflict become even more complicated.
