Shohei Ohtani, the Japanese pitcher/hitter currently playing for the Los Angeles Angels, has been diagnosed with a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament, which is located in his throwing elbow. He received treatment and did not need surgery, however he will not be able to pitch for the remainder of the 2018 season. He may still hit, but regular check-ups will be necessary.
