Kingfishers are hardy birds, able to dive into water from as high as 60 feet without injury. Scientists think this may be due to a genetic adaptation that makes them shock resistant and better able to withstand the G-forces associated with high speed dives! Whatever the reason, kingfishers can dive with impunity into bodies of water without causing a stir.
A high school student from Pittsburgh, Hardy Lloyd, has been arrested after allegedly making threats against a Pennsylvania synagogue. Lloyd is being charged with hate crimes, terroristic threats, and ethnic intimidation. If convicted, Lloyd could face decades in prison.
Hardy Carroll-Lloyd was one of twelve jurors selected to determine the fate of Robert Bowers, accused of creating a mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue. The jury found him guilty on all 44 counts and, despite receiving threats, Carroll-Lloyd remained dedicated to the process. In the end, Bowers was handed 44 life sentences, in part due to Carroll-Lloyd’s perseverance in the face of hardship.
