California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill that elevates child sex trafficking from a misdemeanor to a felony offense. The law enhances criminal consequences for perpetrators, increases fines to fund victim services, and increases coordination between agencies dedicated to stopping the trafficking of minors. This new legislation will hopefully create greater accountability and provide more resources to survivors so they can heal and find safety. By taking the necessary steps to aggressively combat the sexual exploitation of children, lawmakers in California are proving their commitment to ending this type of abuse.
