Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited Moscow for talks with President Vladimir Putin, marking a rare European leader’s visit since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This follows Orbán’s unannounced trip to Kyiv, where he met Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and suggested an immediate cease-fire with Russia. Orbán, seen as Putin’s closest EU ally, has often hindered EU efforts to support Ukraine and sanction Moscow. His visit to Russia was described as a “peace mission.” Putin expressed readiness to discuss peace proposals and hear Orbán’s views on Ukraine and European perspectives.

Elie Samaha, a producer and local venue owner with a checkered history, is in talks to acquire the Dolby Theatre, home of the Oscars telecast. The 3,400-seat venue, part of the Ovation complex, is contracted with the Motion Picture Academy through 2028 and could sell for $70 million. Currently owned by the California Public Employees’ Retirement System and managed by Canyon Partners, the theater and Samaha did not comment. Samaha, known for upgrading Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and owning the Roxbury club, is a notable figure in L.A. nightlife.
