The color-changing hogfish uses its skin as a way to sense its environment and can even do this after it has died. This is due to the presence of four photoreceptive pigments in the hogfish’s skin which help it to detect and respond to light. By using this sense, the hogfish can interpret its environment and respond to any changes taking place.
