The long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been put to an end after a highly disputed autonomous region was dissolved due to a peace treaty in September 2023. The Nagorno-Karabakh region was seen as a possible cause of further tensions between the two Caucasus countries, but after difficult negotiations the two countries agreed to put their differences aside and end this long-running border dispute. This brings peace to a region that has been plagued by conflict for decades and a much-needed sense of hope to the people of both countries.
