The U.S. Senate has passed a Dress Code with formalities including jackets and ties for all men, and dress suits or equivalent for women. This is a criticism of the former, less formal code, which led to both Republicans and Democrats being concerned that a more formal look would make the chambers look more respectful. The new dress code will take effect after the November 2024 elections. This will be the first time since 1972 that a formal dress code has been in effect.
