We age because our cells accumulate damage from a variety of sources such as oxidation, pathogens and lifestyle choices, leading to a breakdown in their ability to effectively communicate and proliferate. Aging also results from an environment where the protective and regenerative elements become limited, leading to a decrease in the effectiveness of the cell’s ability to prevent and repair damage. Lastly, aging can be caused by the decreasing expression of certain genes over time that regulate metabolic pathways throughout the body.
