Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party faced a historic defeat in the general election, securing only 121 seats, the fewest since 1832, and losing 252 seats compared to the last election. Labour won 412 seats. Liz Truss became the first former prime minister to lose her seat, and eight current Cabinet members, including the defense secretary, culture secretary, and leader of the House of Commons, also lost their seats. The Tories were trailing Labour by up to 20 points in pre-election polls.
