On Sept. 8, 2024, the satellite Salsa will re-enter the atmosphere and burn up, guided to a safe region over the South Pacific. This planned “guided re-entry” follows ESA’s Aeolus satellite and aims to prevent space debris. Salsa is part of the Cluster group, alongside Rumba, Tango, and Samba, monitoring Earth’s magnetic field since 2000. Initially intended for a two-year mission, these satellites have provided valuable data for nearly 25 years.
