Earth is set to attract an asteroid, dubbed a “mini-moon,” into its orbit for a couple of months. Named 2024 PT5, this school bus-sized asteroid won’t be visible to the naked eye, requiring a telescope with a one-meter aperture and CCD camera for observation. Expected to enter Earth’s vicinity on September 29, it poses no threat, unlike the much larger asteroid that caused the dinosaurs’ extinction. This event offers a unique opportunity for scientific study, as explained by Muhammad Ayyaz Ameen, Director of Space & Atmospheric Sciences at SUPARCO Karachi.
