Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) will be visible from New York City on Oct. 12, if it doesn’t break apart. Discovered in China in January 2023, it has two tails and can be seen near the constellation Ophiuchus after sunset. Astrophysicist Jackie Faherty advises cautious optimism as comets can disintegrate. October also features two meteor showers, four planets, and fall constellations, with the Draconids meteor shower peaking on Oct. 7.
