Astronomers and AI discovered TIC 290061484, a unique stellar trio, using NASA’s TESS data. The system features twin stars orbiting every 1.8 days, with a third star circling them in 25 days, breaking a 1956 record. This edge-on configuration allows detailed study of the stars’ orbits, masses, and temperatures. The discovery, led by Veselin Kostov, was published in The Astrophysical Journal. Citizen scientists, part of the Planet Hunters project, helped identify the system by analyzing starlight patterns indicating eclipses.
