A Chinese woman in her 20s was rescued 37 hours after being swept out to sea while swimming at a Japanese beach. She drifted over 80 kilometers in an inflatable swim ring. Japan’s coast guard launched a search after her friend reported her missing from Shimoda. She was spotted by a cargo ship and rescued by the LPG tanker Kakuwa Maru No. 8. The woman was airlifted to safety by a coast guard helicopter. A video showed her standing on the tanker, wrapped in a blanket, with crew members nearby.
