A wild bear that attacked five people in Slovakia remains on the loose. In response to a deadly bear attack on a 19-year-old hiker, Romania’s parliament approved the culling of nearly 500 bears to control overpopulation. The victim, Maria Diana, was killed while hiking, prompting an emergency parliamentary session and a moment of silence. Romania, home to 8,000 brown bears, has seen 26 fatalities and 274 severe injuries from bear attacks over the past 20 years.
