Amateur astronomers in the Southern Hemisphere are currently observing Comet A3 (C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), which has emerged from behind the sun. Northern Hemisphere observers will soon get their chance. While it’s uncertain if it will become one of the brightest comets in the last 100 years or visible in daylight, it is brightening rapidly, currently at magnitude +4. It could potentially reach magnitude +0.6. Prospects for a visually impressive display in mid-October are excellent, though the comet must overcome the risk of disintegration.
