An international team of archaeologists discovered the world’s oldest known picture story, a 51,200-year-old cave painting at Leang Karampuang on Sulawesi, Indonesia. This painting, featuring three therianthropes and a wild pig, predates the previous record holder by 6,000 years. Samples collected in 2017 were dated earlier this year. The previous record was a 45,500-year-old wild pig painting at Leang Tedongnge. The findings challenge the age of European ice age art, with some Spanish claims of older art being largely rejected by the scientific community.
