Astronomers discovered KMT-2020-BLG-0414, a rocky planet 4,000 light-years away, orbiting a white dwarf. This offers a glimpse of Earth’s potential future in 8 billion years. Our sun will become a white dwarf after expanding into a red giant, possibly consuming nearby planets. If Earth survives, it may resemble KMT-2020-BLG-0414. Earth’s habitability is limited to another billion years due to a runaway greenhouse effect. The system, near the Milky Way’s center, was detected via gravitational lensing and includes a brown dwarf.
