Beryl made landfall near Cozumel, Mexico, as a Category 2 hurricane, causing power outages in resort towns. Downgraded to a tropical storm, it is expected to weaken before entering the Gulf of Mexico. Texas is on alert as the storm may regain hurricane status and intensify by Sunday night or Monday. The National Hurricane Center warns of damaging winds and life-threatening storm surge in northeastern Mexico and Texas. Areas north of Corpus Christi are particularly at risk. Hurricane and storm surge watches have been issued from the Texas-Mexico border to Sargent, Texas.
