Earth will soon have a temporary “mini moon,” an asteroid named 2024 PT5, about the size of a school bus. Discovered in August by astronomers at Complutense University of Madrid, it will be trapped by Earth’s gravity for around two months starting Sunday. These mini moons are common but hard to detect due to their small size. The asteroid won’t be visible to the naked eye but can be observed with large telescopes. It will leave Earth’s orbit on November 25 and is expected to pass by again in 2055.
