Germany’s Oktoberfest has begun, with Mayor Dieter Reiter tapping the first beer keg to start the 189th festival. Thousands celebrated at Munich’s Theresienwiese fairground, where the event runs through October 6 in 18 large tents. Around 6 million visitors are expected over 16 days, with beer prices between $15 and $17. The festival, which began in 1810 to celebrate a royal wedding, was skipped in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 but returned in 2022. Metal detectors have been added in Munich following an attack in Solingen.
