Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm, hit Jamaica on Wednesday with fierce winds and heavy rain, causing power outages in the capital. The storm had already killed at least six people and caused significant damage in the southeast Caribbean. Nearly 500 people were placed in shelters, with Prime Minister Andrew Holness emphasizing their care. The U.S. National Hurricane Center reported Beryl’s eyewall brushing Jamaica’s south coast.
