Hurricane Beryl has begun striking Jamaica and will next impact the Cayman Islands and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It poses a threat to the western Gulf Coast, from Texas to Mexico, early next week. Beryl became the earliest Atlantic Category 5 hurricane after hitting the Windward Islands. Currently, its strongest winds are nearing Jamaica, with rain bands affecting Haiti, potentially causing flooding and mudslides. The National Hurricane Center indicates Beryl’s tropical-storm-force winds extend outward significantly.
