Hurricane John, which hit western Mexico on Monday with strong winds and heavy rains, dissipated but regained tropical storm strength over the Pacific on Tuesday. The National Hurricane Center warned it could become a hurricane again, issuing watches and warnings for southern and southwestern Mexico. A hurricane watch was issued from Acapulco to Tecpan de Galeana and Lazaro Cardenas to Punta San Telmo, while a tropical storm warning covered Punta Maldonado to Acapulco and Lazaro Cardenas to Punta San Telmo. Preparations to protect life and property were urged.
