In January 2023, comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) was discovered and predicted to be quite bright. While some exaggerated claims called it the “comet of the century,” its actual brightness was uncertain. Now visible to the naked eye in the morning sky in Australia and New Zealand, it shows promise but is unlikely to be the comet of the decade. It will be the best comet of the year, visible before sunrise until early October. Look east with binoculars to see its dusty tail.
