In October, stargazing highlights include Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), potentially visible to the naked eye or through binoculars. Early in the month, look east before sunrise, and mid-month, look west after sunset. October also features a “ring of fire” annular solar eclipse visible only from Chile and Argentina, the year’s biggest “supermoon,” and the Orionid meteor shower from Halley’s comet. Key dates for the comet are Oct. 1-2 (eastern sky) and Oct. 12-16 (western sky).
