Israeli warplanes launched heavy airstrikes targeting Hashem Safieddine, cousin and presumed successor of assassinated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The strikes, among the heaviest since Nasrallah’s death, aimed to decapitate Hezbollah’s leadership. It’s unclear if Safieddine, present at a senior meeting, was killed. Born in the early 1960s, Safieddine was an early Hezbollah member, rising quickly to become a political, spiritual, and military leader. This follows Israel’s recent invasion of southern Lebanon.
