NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover discovered a unique zebra-striped rock, “Freya Castle,” in Jezero Crater, unlike any seen on Mars before. The rock, possibly formed by igneous or metamorphic processes, stands out in the red landscape. Earlier, Perseverance found another unusual rock, “Cheyava Falls,” potentially holding evidence of ancient microbes. The rover’s mission, since landing in 2021, aims to find signs of past life on Mars. NASA hopes to return these samples to Earth to study Mars’ ancient climate and its transition to a cold, desolate state.
