On Mars, the Perseverance rover recently discovered an unusual black and white striped rock named “Freya Castle,” likely a loose stone that rolled downhill. Scientists are excited, hoping to find more of this rock type for detailed study. Perseverance also found a leopard-spotted rock, “Cheyava Falls,” potentially holding evidence of ancient microbial life. This follows a productive summer where Perseverance and Curiosity discovered diverse geological features, including pure sulfur and anorthosite boulders. Perseverance is currently climbing Jezero Crater’s slopes to explore more rock varieties.
