Portland residents and others in Oregon witnessed a rare meteor fireball late Monday night, with numerous social media posts and videos documenting the event. The fireball, visible for about five seconds, was described as green with a yellow tail, likely due to burning copper. Reports came from across Oregon and Washington, with sightings as far as Bellingham, Sacramento, and Boise. The American Meteor Society logged over 130 reports between 10:45 p.m. and 11 p.m. Jim Todd from OMSI noted the fireball was 60 to 80 miles high.
