Scientists discovered a salamander-like creature, Gaiasia jennyae, that lived 40 million years before dinosaurs. The Field Museum in Chicago detailed the find, describing it as a large predator with a skull over two feet long and massive fangs. Jason Pardo, a postdoctoral fellow, noted its size and predatory nature. An unrelated biologist likened its jaw to an “aggressive stapler.” The discovery team was surprised to find the creature atop an octopus fossil.
