Scientists from Chicago’s Field Museum discovered nine new species of fossil grape seeds in South America, dating back 19 to 60 million years. Led by Dr. Fabiany Herrera, the study suggests grapes spread globally after dinosaurs’ extinction. The seeds, found in Colombia, Panama, and Peru, are the oldest in the region and slightly younger than the oldest globally. Dr. Monica Carvalho noted that dinosaurs’ movements likely contributed to ecosystem changes.
