Two Colombian men accused of killing Ecuadorian journalist Javier Ortega, photographer Paul Rivas, and their driver in April 2018 have been arrested and extradited to Ecuador. The men, identified as members of the Oliver Sinisterra Gang, could be tried under Ecuador’s new law for the protection and promotion of human rights in the communication industry. Ecuador is hoping this extradition will serve as an example of its commitment to press freedom.
