The controversial Japanese nuclear plant, Fukushima Daiichi, is finally being treated with world-first robots after the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The robot technologies created by Toshiba to clean up the radioactive debris are pioneering in the industry and the estimated completion date is in 2021. This reactor No. 2 decontamination project is a monumental undertaking, as it requires dismantled fuel rods, debris and contaminated items to be removed from vast storage pools. The hope is that the process will safely clean up the site and provide some form of closure to the disaster.
