The Great Blue Hole, located 60 miles off Belize’s coast, is a massive marine sinkhole that began as a cave and flooded thousands of years ago. Made famous by Jacques Cousteau, it attracts divers despite its dangers. Human remains, a GoPro, and plastic waste have been found at its bottom. Initially teeming with aquatic life, including sharks, the site has seen several exploration efforts, including a 2018 submarine expedition. Stalactites indicate it was once above water.
